Special container trikes for a commercial delivery system
These container trikes are used in a pilot system of sustainable transport for Amsterdam restaurants. The aluminium box has hatches on either side with compartments that perfectly fit the system's delivery boxes. In one direction they carry vegetables and other restaurant supplies and on the return trip they bring the recycling back to the depot. Its quiet, people friendly, requires no fuel and in Amsterdam's crowded city center the trikes are just about as fast as delivery trucks. The cost savings are obviously enormous too.
Because these tricycles can be loaded with up to 250kg of food and supplies they're built very sturdily and equipped with 8 speed Shimano gearing and drum brakes.
The first few bikes required considerable discussion, design and planning and were thus quite expensive. If the program is commercially successful we'll be able to build these much cheaper in series.
